I have unforgettable memories that are locked in my heart from the LGBTIQ rainbow village exhibition event that took place in Prey Veng province South of Cambodia before COVID-19. It was a particularly exciting rainbow day where LGBTIQ and allies were invited for a physical gathering. A precious day to express the aspirations of LGBTIQ couples with great smiles, their long journeys, and thrilling positive developments in their life. Their stories reflected good practices in overcoming obstacles in life just by being who they are and staying true and proud of themselves. Having those visible LGBTIQ people who have the courage to tell their stories is powerful because they encourage more stories to be shared and by that, someone can gain more confidence, support, and visibility in their family and community. I had the opportunity to hear mindful stories, on coping with discrimination, coming out safely, and addressing family acceptance. I felt inspired and encouraged by the stories shared and it has been my source of motivation to fight for equality and proudly contribute to being part of a safer and greater community towards LGBTIQ.
