This Life Cambodia (TLC) was established in 2007 after communities approached the founding director with requests to be listened to. The organisation was founded on the appreciation that local communities are the experts when it comes to identifying practical ways to achieve improvements in their daily lives, and many hold an abundance of ideas for a better Cambodia. Working side by side with community residents, listening to their insights and acting on their input, we have developed a sustainable, empowering and replicable approach to development that works, as evidenced by strong MEAL and feedback from the communities we serve. In the course of ten years, This Life Cambodia has grown rapidly into an award winning well-respected community development NGO. This Life Cambodia won the Start Impact Award in 2015.

This Life Cambodia is the Linking and Learning Facilitator for Voice in Cambodia. Voice Linking and Learning refers to the total of activities, processes and trajectories realised to boost collaboration, connectedness, sharing, listening, learning, innovation and innovation of new knowledge among grantees. It aims to produce evidence, learning and innovative solutions to catalyse transformative change for the most marginalised and discriminated groups. This Life Cambodia works in straight collaboration and coordination with Voice Cambodia as well as Global Coordination Team. This Life Cambodia supports Voice grantees in developing their own linking and learning as well as amplify the linking and learning to national, regional and international level. They promote participation of members of the Voice target groups and facilitate building communities of practice around issues and challenges that concern them. They develop a platform that supports inclusive collaboration, including community members in geographically remote areas. They organise events and meetings, develop thought provoking pieces, and produce creative works in order to amplify the grantees’ voices at the local, regional, and national level. All the events and activities will be announced here so watch this space!

Connect all Voice grantees and stakeholders in a country-wide and/or multi-country network or platform. TLC has demonstrated good performance as a Voice Linking and Learning facilitator which has boosted collaboration, connectedness, sharing, listening, learning, innovation and innovation of new knowledge among all 27 grantees. They have managed to produce evidence, learning and innovative solutions to catalyze transformative change for the most marginalized and discriminated groups.
They have ensured all the new Voice grantees are invited into the Voice Cambodia Linking and Learning Facebook group and continue to share external resources. Provide one-on-one support to grantees on the technical use of the platform, including setting up event calendars for upcoming events, inviting group members to one another’s events, etc. Explore new features to connect platforms. For instance, a webinar that enables speakers/grantees to connect from Zoom, and to share with the audiences through Facebook Live.
Grantees’ networking supports, capacity strengthening, and collaboration. After informing, gathering insights, networking, grantees begin their collaboration by looking into those who share similar purposes for their rightsholder group. For example, YMCA and HelpAge Cambodia co-facilitate the Elderly people forum, as well as WPM, have selected the candidates from RSDOB and LKO for Weaving Women’s Leadership for Change. This connection began after grantees built their network through Linking and Learning. Moreover, grantees have strengthened their capacity and skills that enable them to utilize those skills in practice. For example, AUA has produced multiple videos about their focus group, right after video editing training.
Ownership of grantees forward linking and learning under logistic support of the L & L facilitator team. Grantee taking the initiative to invite other grantees to participate or co-facilitate their events. Besides physical celebration, they are also keen to join any online campaign which is recognized internationally. For instance, the rights holder group from Bophana has volunteered to join a one-week campaign hosted by Asia Languages Online to preserve Indigenous People Language. She collected the content of stories and worked with her team to tweet for about 15 stories during the week.
Number of stories went out through different media platforms. It is an extensive achievement while having 112 stories (17 blog articles and 95 Facebook posts) and 26 tweets through Twitter campaigns. Grantees and rightsholder groups are grateful for having their stories published on such wide-reaching platforms, allowing the world to hear their stories.
Linking and Learning documentary: It is one of the biggest achievements to display since the documentary has captured every angle of Voice rightsholder, grantees, L&L facilitator, Voice Country team as well as Voice Reginal on how Linking and learning make an impact. The documentary plays a crucial role in amplifying ideas, voices, and communication faster and easier than many other forms of media.
Community of Practice based on target group: the dramatic change of their way of conducting meetings transformed from the meetings within geographical areas (Phnom Penh, Battambang, and Ratanakiri) with grantees working on different types of rightsholders to meetings of Community of Practice on target group-based. Three main target groups were divided as the Women group (in Phnom Penh); LGBTI, the Elderly, People with Disabilities (in Battambang) and Indigenous people (in Ratanakiri). This big change brings about some of the most important aspects of Linking and Learning. The target group-based CoP consists of only those who are working in similar fields of expertise/rightsholder groups to come together to discuss how the work progresses within different provinces/authorities, challenges and recommendations, as well as produce actual plan/collaboration during the meeting itself.
