Rencontre Africaine pour la Défense des Droits de l#Homme (RADDHO) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in April, 1990 in Dakar, Senegal. RADDHO is a highly respected human rights organisation, and has a strong and well-established relationship with policy-makers at senior levels. RADDHO#s works for the defence and protection of the rights of victims, providing them with legal andjudicial assistance with an emphasis on the protection of vulnerable persons and groups. RADDHO conducts regionaland international advocacy and referring cases to human rights monitoring bodies. This experience has been developed through RADDHO#s sustained engagement with the United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS institutions.
On this project RADDHO works with Anti-Slavery International as technical assistance provider. In Mali the partner is ENDA and in Niger it is ANTD.

The project aims at addressing forced begging by talibé /garibou children, who are generally boys aged 5 to 15 years old living in residential Quranic schools. Many are forced to beg on the streets for up to seven hours a day and suffer mistreatment or neglect from their Quranic masters.

To end their exploitation, RADDHO works in Senegal as well as with partners in Niger and Mali to obtain knowledge and understanding of the nature, causes and prevalence of forced child begging and the effectiveness of past and ongoing interventions in Senegal through up-to-date research.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the collaboration between Human Rights Organisations in Niger, Senegal and Mali that work on talibé/garibou issues to be better equipped and collaborate effectively to positively influence policy makers at the national and regional level for the adoption of strong and coordinated responses to forced child begging.

With the implementation of this project, Talibé children are empowered to organise themselves, to engage with the media and participate effectively in national debates and make their voices heard to discuss the eradication of forced beggingin Senegal, Niger and Mali. Best practices are shared to promote the learning accumulated over the course of the project and encourage the adoption of coordinated responses.
