Endorois Welfare Council (EWC) is a registered community-based organisation founded by senior members of the Endorois Indigenous Minority community living in the Lake Bogoria area of Baringo County, Marigat sub-county and Mogotio sub-county, as well as in Nakuru and Laikipia counties within Rift Valley province of Kenya. With support from its partners, EWC successfully launched and won a case against the Kenyan government in February 2010 over the forceful eviction of Endorois community in Lake Bogoria.
The EWC empowers the Indigenous and Minority community to advocate for their social, economic and political rights with special attention to vulnerable groups such as women, children and people living with disability within the Endorois community through capacity building trainings that ensure the Endorois community members can advocate for their socio-economic rights.

Project
The Strengthened Space for Endorois Women in Political Participation project enhances political participation for women, youth and vulnerable members of the Endorois community, through training on their right to political participation and decision-making processes. This project is a positive political impact in both County and National Governments for the community members to understand their rights and those who have interest in political aspiration are trained to realise their potential, including having exposure visits to County Assembly.
On the decision-making process, women in the community are empowered with knowledge and understanding. They are more motivated and vibrant when participating in small decision-making levels within the community or any other political arena. The end result is women’s’ voices being respected in decision-making processes within the community and any other planning processes in the community.

“Gender should not be a determinant of whether to be a great leader or not.” EWC
The above quote summarises the efforts of the project by Endorois Welfare Council (EWC). More specifically, they aimed to enhance the political participation for women, youth and vulnerable members of the community through training of the Endorois community members(Women) on their right to political participation and decision making processes. This allowed the community members to understand their right and those who have interest in political aspiration be capacity built to realise their opportunity, including having exposure visits to the County Assembly.
The achievement of the project was capacity building for Endorois Women on existing political spaces in Kenya as provided by the constitution. Endorois Welfare council was able to share with them very possible reasons and importance that they should benefit from these spaces as a person. They shared with them that they have rights as well to participate in these spaces. Endorois women since independence have been left behind to perform house hold roles and as an institution with the help of Voice we are proud to break this barrier/gap, build Endorois women capacities on leadership, do civic education in 17 Endorois location which include Loboi, Kapkuikui, Sandai, Kabel, Kimoriot, Sosionde, Chemorongion, Rumuruti, Olkokwe, Nyalibuch, Kapnosgei, Kabuswo, Chelitit, Radat, Bekibon, Majimoto and Kamar and later 17 select Endorois women leaders with two male opinion leaders into political space training whereby they learnt more about Kenya political spaces and opportunities, with the shared discussion they were able to identify many challenges which have held Endorois women back from being leaders.
A major achievement was one of the ladies Ms Lorna Koech who is an Endorois Woman leader in Chebinyiny sub location being appointed as a Sub Chief. Her appointment as the Sub Chief has had spill over effects to the members of her Sub Location, in that she has been able to advocate for equal allocation of resources which in return has contributed to improvement of the living standards of people in her Sub Location.
