    The Union Nationale Des Aveugles Du Niger (UNAN) is a local organisation created for the protection, promotion and social integration of blind and partially sighted people. It is a non-profit  association, created on February 20, 1974 and authorised by the decree No. 153 / MI /DAPA / of October 30, 1974 under the name of “Niger Republic Association for the Promotion of the Blind (ANPA) ” amended by Order No. 172 / MDI / DAPJ of 28 October 1988 to become the National Union of the Blind of Niger (known as UNAN).”

    UNAN is represented by a Governing Board, its regional bureaus, the departmental sub-sections and local communal cells. UNAN also has a committee of blind women and spouses of the blind, a committee of  blind youth and partially sighted people and an elderly council which hold their general assembly every four years.

      The project Empowering blind people promotes equal opportunities for visually impaired students and professionals in the community. The project uses computer trainings adapted to visual impairment and the use of Information and Communication Technologies in schooling, studies, research, training, decent employment and citizen participation in Niger.

      The project involves training for twenty visually impaired young people in using ICTs at an affordable or free cost, taking into account the realities of Niger. It also trains them in communication and advocacy techniques, and how ICTs  can be helpful in transmitting advocacy messages, with a view to the Niger’s ratification of the Marrakech Treaty.
