Let Girls Learn Initiative is a feminist non-governmental organisation registered in Kenya. They work to enhance adolescent girls’ and young women’s access to quality education by addressing their sexual and reproductive health needs. Let Girls Learn Initiative recognises the unique and systemic challenges affecting girls’ access to education in Kenya. We believe that investing in girls and young women, particularly from rural and disadvantaged communities, yields multiple benefits for families, communities, and countries and that this approach has a transformative ability to reform societies which in turn allows girls and young women to thrive.
Feminists in Kenya is a feminist movement in Kenya that creates feminist knowledge, amplifies feminist discourse, feminist joy and supports feminist movement building. Our vision is to embody and practice our feminisms in all areas of society. The values that guide our organising and movement-building work include; Inclusion and Diversity, a value that enables us to create ways for everyone to be equally heard and respected. We constantly challenge ourselves to build diverse and inclusive teams and to recognize and respond to different barriers to participation.

      Project: FIK#GOD LOVES LGBTIQ

The project seeks to sustainably create spaces for constructive discourses and debates on reconciling Feminism and Faith, especially with regards to the rights of Sexual and Gender Minorities. This will ultimately and steadily lead to shifted mindsets on Religion and Sexuality, allowing for safer and welcoming spaces of worship for LGBTI People. Queer voices in Kenya have often been marginalised and excluded from conversations affecting their realities. Therefore, for this project, Queer voices will be at the front and we will centre the voices, realities and experiences of LGBTI People.
What then does it mean to be Feminist, Queer and Religious? FIK proposes to establish a Resource Hub on Faith, Freedom and Feminism. This Resource Hub will be the digital and visual articulation of feminism and religion to advance solidarity with the LGBTIQ community as they navigate being religious and Queer. FIK intends to document this through a podcast video series that will host raw conversations on LGBTIQ persons’ lived experiences on Religion and Feminism. This will provide an opportunity for LGBTIQ feminist activists in Africa and religious institutions to have a one-of-a-kind, online knowledge and resource hub curated to foster unity, solidarity and understanding amongst them. It will also raise political consciousness and shift homophobic rhetoric and attitudes that are detrimental to the livelihood, dignity and equal rights of LGBTIQ persons.
