The project seeks to sustainably create spaces for constructive discourses and debates on reconciling Feminism and Faith, especially with regards to the rights of Sexual and Gender Minorities. This will ultimately and steadily lead to shifted mindsets on Religion and Sexuality, allowing for safer and welcoming spaces of worship for LGBTI People. Queer voices in Kenya have often been marginalised and excluded from conversations affecting their realities. Therefore, for this project, Queer voices will be at the front and we will centre the voices, realities and experiences of LGBTI People.
What then does it mean to be Feminist, Queer and Religious? FIK proposes to establish a Resource Hub on Faith, Freedom and Feminism. This Resource Hub will be the digital and visual articulation of feminism and religion to advance solidarity with the LGBTIQ community as they navigate being religious and Queer. FIK intends to document this through a podcast video series that will host raw conversations on LGBTIQ persons’ lived experiences on Religion and Feminism. This will provide an opportunity for LGBTIQ feminist activists in Africa and religious institutions to have a one-of-a-kind, online knowledge and resource hub curated to foster unity, solidarity and understanding amongst them. It will also raise political consciousness and shift homophobic rhetoric and attitudes that are detrimental to the livelihood, dignity and equal rights of LGBTIQ persons.
