Project
The importance of this project “Economic Sovereignty of Indigenous Women” is to increase the role of indigenous women within the indigenous community to be economically empowered. So far, the role of women is considered not optimal inimproving the family economy because they still carry a double burden, while the potential possessed by indigenous peoples is quite large and strong, both in the agricultural sector, livestock, handicrafts, utilization of natural resources, customaryforests, customary territories but has not received attention. The aim of this food sovereignty programis to strengthen the indigenous peoples’ economy through the indigenous peoples’ food sovereignty program in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has not yet been completed and threatens an economic crisis and social crisis in indigenous peoples in the long term. The solution is to strengthen the economy of indigenous peoples through indigenous women, by utilizing the potential ofindigenous territories, the natural resources of indigenous peoples.SAFE Sumbawa since 2019 Voice program had initiatedtheformation of Indigenous Women of Sumbawa and encourage the formation of management of indigenous women within the institution of indigenous peoples, because of the presence of management proficiency level to facilitate the interaction of indigenous peoples in building a stronger indigenous peoples. Indigenous peoples can be empowered and the existence of the management ofindigenous women will help empower the indigenous peoples’ own economy. If indigenous women are empowered, they will be creative and able to formulate and run programs that have been previously agreed upon, for example in the utilization of 2 hectares of land/forest/customary territory managed by indigenous women to plant commodities ready for harvest within 1-4 months in every season. As long as indigenous women have not been able to play a full role in the utilization of customary forests, although the interest of indigenous women is very high. The expected achievement of this program is the existence of an Indigenous Community-Owned Enterprise (BUMMA) in every indigenous community within the indigenous community, as a strong support institution for the economic sustainability of indigenous peoples both in the midst of Covid 19 and in the long term, because BUMMA also acts as a the centre for the economic development of indigenous peoples through the indigenous peoples’ food sovereignty program. With the women’s indigenous participation in Burma, it will increasethe creative economy of indigenous peoples, and promote the creative values of indigenous peoples which bringspositive impact on economic survival of indigenous peoples , such as the manufacture of palm sugar, honey, ginger, and others andso on.
