Project
The Project Handicap ,Fashion and Art is implemented by a consortium between GADEC and the Ensemble national artistique et culturel des personnes handicapées du Mali (ENACPHM) using a new approach for inclusion which focuses on fashion, art and capacity strengthening. The project includes small people and people with physical disabilities, both marginalised and discriminated groups in Mali.
GADEC rejects the negative notion that small people are passive but instead they can be important players in society and hence it promotes local savings and credit groups and at the same time offer educational opportunities all implemented in the spirit of transparency and governance.
The project aims to create artistic and cultural opportunities in Segou and Bamako for small people and people with physical disabilities. This will be done by training people in tailoring, business, music and fashion. Once trained the project organises festivals where their talents can be demonstrated. There is a strong linking and learning component, developing confidence and skills for empowerment and creating secure spaces to share and learn. Many actors work together to coach and support the target group.
