    • Project

      Despite the efforts made by the government of the Republic of Mali to improve the conditions of women in Mali, in particular the National Gender Policy (PNG), the National Programme for the Fight against Excision (PNLE), etc., it is clear that many women continue to be victims of rape, harmful traditional practices such as excision, forced and early marriages, sexual assault and sexual exploitation. Mentalities and behaviours are still deeply marked by certain customary and religious practices based on gender inequality and the dominant role of men in the family and in society. This situation persists due to the non-adoption of the draft law on GBV. Faced with this situation, the MUSONET-CapDH Consortium is proposing the project “Musow kunko, an bɛ kunko! (What concerns women, concerns us all!)”, whose main objective is to improve the legal framework for the protection of women and girls in order to fight against violence and inequalities against women and girls in Mali. This project covers the regions of Kayes, Koulikoro, Sikasso and the District of Bamako. It runs for a period of 24 months. The MUSONET-CAPDH Consortium is convinced that the implementation of this project will contribute to the establishment of an improved legal framework for the protection of women and girls by pooling the efforts of the various actors for the adoption of the draft law on gender-based violence (GBV). This project consists of bringing together dynamic and influential women’s organisations within a network to initiate advocacy/lobbying actions for the improvement of the legal framework for the protection of women/girls. The implementation of this project will be done through two main results broken down into activities:

      • Result 1: 30 dynamic women’s rights organisations are mobilised in a vast network in favour of the adoption of the draft law on Gender Based Violence (GBV)
      • Activity 1: Establishment of a network of women’s rights organisations Activity 2: Capacity building of network member organisations on women’s rights and advocacy
      • Result 2: Advocacy actions are undertaken by the network for the adoption of the draft law on Gender Based Violence (GBV)
      • Activity 3: Study to identify obstacles and constraints related to the non-adoption of the draft law on GBV
      • Activity 4: Mapping of all stakeholders to be involved in the adoption of the draft law on GBV
      • Activity 5: Organize a workshop to develop an advocacy plan with the network members;
      • Activity 6: Implementation of advocacy initiatives
      • Activity 7: Information and advocacy sessions7: Information-Education-Communication (IEC) sessions on GBV;
