    The NGO Afrika Obota Niger (CAO-Niger) is a Non-Governmental Organisation created in 1997. The Organisation promotes democracy and rule of law, human rights and civic education with an extensive experience in; raising awareness, organising radio talk shows, carrying out studies and capacity strengthening of the various actors who animate the socio-political life of the country, in particular, political parties, traditional leaders, religious leaders, civil society organisations and young people.

    The fields of intervention are:

    • Governance, democracy and the rule of law.
    • Decentralisation and elections.
    • Empowerment of women and young people.
    • Solidarity and African integration CAO-Niger is the Nigerien section of the Afrika Obota Center network, present in six (6) West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, and Togo)

    From a partnership point of view, CAO-Niger has a large portfolio of partners both at the national level and in the sub-region, according to its areas of intervention.

    • Project

      The Centre Africa Obota Niger project promotes active citizen participation of young people for a free, transparent, and peaceful election in Niger in 2021. This initiative is born from a consortium of CAO/SOS-Civisme et Ré-GENOVICO and is being implemented in Maradi and Tillaberi regions.

      The project focuses on informing citizens about their rights and duties as well as their role and responsibilities in the peaceful management of the city’s affairs on the other. The project not only strengthens the capacities of young people (male and female) on citizenship, the electoral cycle, legal remedies in case of contestation of voting results, non-violent communication, conflict prevention and management, but also sets up a “citizens’ vigil” that benefit from training on local animation/awareness techniques in order to better prepare them to conduct awareness sessions in the field.
