    Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing association (EMDR) for Cambodian People, or EMDR as it is called in short is a path breaking tool in psychotherapy. EMDR Cambodia consists of a group of professional gathered to be a part of healing service for better reduction of traumatic stress happening to Cambodia People. Since mid-2012, the need of the establishment of an association to represent EMDR therapists in Cambodia was clear and officially registered with MoI in 2013. The name of the association was officially approved and known as EMDR Cambodia in early 2013. EMDR Cambodia started its own journey with a clear organizational structure and bylaw under technical and financial supports from EMDR Switzerland, EMDR Germany and the Mekong Project in Cambodia and EMDR Asia.

    Mission and Vision of EMDR Cambodia wishes to contribute to improving Cambodian people’s mental health and livelihood through provision of appropriate and professional psychotherapy and psychological support and Provide EMDR therapy to people with psychological difficulties, Promote understanding of mental health, trauma and counseling, Improve mental health service delivery of mental health care provider through training and supervision, and support young EMDR practitioners.

    Currently, EEMDR have implement Mekong program for the 2nd phase for improve mental health problem and treatment. In 2020, they have developed a center to provide services, treatment and research on mental health. Many network and partners work together on mental health trauma patient. Partnership with department of mental health and psychological. Developed guideline on basic mental health care and treatment and integrate in school curriculum.

      This project aims to develop the fundamental and practical mental health first aid skills with more accessible and affordable mental health services through peer to peer mental health awareness and advocacy. There are two main component under this project including

      1). Mental Health First-Aid (MHFA) training, and

      2). Professional mental health support session. The MHFA is the evidence-based training provided by the mental health experts to offer the practical skills and knowledge of mental health 101 through three cohorts of Peer to Peer Mental Workshop to identify, understand, and respond to mental health problems. This mental health support program targeting 45 mental health advocates who are youth, women, people with disability, gender diversity and indigenous with aged 18-35 year-old. All participants in peer to peer mental health workshop is target those who had personal experience of mental health problems, witnessing the stigma and discrimination against people living with mental health problems. Also, those who want to learn skills and knowledge of offering first aid for mental health problem to other and themselves. Various approaches on mental health awareness and advocacy are adapted with peer to peer education model while case studies and stories of changes will be developed and amplify as part of their awareness raising approaches.

      This 18 months project is target to implement in Phnom Penh, Kandal and Prey Veng province that have high rate of mental health of problems.

      Project goal: To develop the fundamental and practical mental health first aid skills with more accessible and affordable mental health services through peer to peer mental health awareness and advocacy.

      Specific objective 1: Identify and build capacity of young mental health advocacy through Mental Health First Aid training for 3 cohorts.

      Specific objective 2: Coaching and mentoring support young mental health advocacy through professional mental health support session.

      Specific objective 3: Peer to pear mental health support groups for sustainable awareness raising.
