Project
Improving the lives of female (ex-) detainees is about the lives of women, girls in prison -now or in their past lives. Their lives are affected by difficulties accessing health care, facing aggression from the population if they are not rejected in the first place.
The Association Etoile tara Bouaré knows these challenges well and has strong relational networks. The women are taken on a journey of psycho-social support activities, theatrical performances, exchanges and courses. These are executed by the association and former prisoners from Bamako. The former detainees are the interlocuteurs between families and detainees, and the main facilitators of the project.
In reality, the number of women in prison is increasing. As a part of this reality, there is a presence in the Malian prisons of pregnant women or young children (some are born there) in conditions often very difficult to sustain a pregnancy and especially to raise a child.
