Voice Multi-country Grantees on a Visual Journey

By The Constellation

“This is me, this is what I should be doing”, Patricia Kamende from Kenya is full of excitement when she talks about the filming training she is currently following in the context of the Link and Learn the process that The Constellation is facilitating for Voice multi-country projects.

See Patricia’s testimony here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Tl-rOVElE

Patricia is part of a young film team representing COVAW that is in training to capture their own story of change with regard to Violence Against Women. The team, through distance training, is learning to use the materials at hand (a cell phone) to film. They also learn interviewing and storytelling during the Visual Journey. Their camera and microphone will be focussed on the strengths that they discover around them.

The Visual Journey is one of the ways through which Voice multi country grantees are Linking and Learning. First, during the filming and storytelling rights holders learn from their own experience. They identify a story of change within their group. Then, they share this lesson with other Voice projects in a short movie: a communication tool that is easily accessible and inspirational.

In total ten Voice multi-country grantees in Africa and Asia will follow a similar process in the months to come.

Visual Journey is a collaboration between The Constellation and Visual Development. It is inspired by the Behind the Mask series when, during the first months of Covid-19, the partners invited individuals and communities to film their own story of strengths discovered during difficult times: https://asyouopenyoureyes.com/behindthemask.
