    BAIL works to protect the environment, and more specifically to protect the planet’s biodiversity and how it can be used effectively and in an integrated manner into rural societies. The interventions of BAIL are carried out in close collaboration with local communities.

    BAIL’s programmes aim to demonstrate that a rational management of natural resources can lead to their sustainable conservation, while allowing a harmonious development of village communities in their environment.  Each activity is based on a participatory and integrated approach where the economic, social and ecological components are taken into account.

    • Project

      The project Women transforming forest products near Parc W, Niger supports the empowerment of women’s groups transforming non-timber forest products in the rural commune of Tamou on the outskirts of the Regional Park of W of Niger.

      The project area is located in the villages Moli Haoussa, Weigorou, Allambaré and Tamou in the rural commune of Say, Tillabéry region. It addressed on the one hand, the empowerment of women’s groups through Income Generating Activities and on the other hand the conservation of biological diversity through the sustainable management of  natural resources for the benefit of local communities; and the recovery and processing of Non-Timber Forest Products.

      The activities focus on the training of women in female leadership, extracting vegetable oil, manufacturing of soap and body cream based on balanites and neem and purchasing of equipment to process materials in the target villages of the project.

      In general, 100 women are directly involved in this project, which contributes to strengthening the capacity of four groups of women processors by presenting a new way of management and sustainable exploitation of natural resources, based on a participatory approach and equitable sharing of income from its exploitation.
