    • Project

The project Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women in Bangui, Madaoua intends to lead to the improvement of the competitiveness of (the by-products of) onions on national and export markets. It concerns the hygiene in the transformation, the current artisanal technologies used by the transformers, overcoming blockages as well as storage.

Niger is the largest producer and exporter of onions in West Africa after Nigeria. Despite its income generating potential and contribution onions play to ensure food security (especially compensating for the  cereal deficit), certain weaknesses have been observed which slow down its development.

These are mainly constraints related to its transformation and storage and preservation, having repercussions in marketing and consequently on the income stability of producers and other actors directly linked to the onion industry. By empowering women to look at storage and adding value the project intends to provide additional  income as well as food security.
