    • Project

The project Curbing Gender-Based Violence & Child Trafficking in IDP camps aims at reducing incidences of Gender and Sexual Based Violence, Child trafficking and labour in the IDP camps in Durumi and Kuchingoro in Abuja Federal Capital Territory. This is done through sensitisation, education and monthly intervention for security and health check of IDPs in collaboration with the Gender Technical Unit of the FCT Police Command as well as capacity building and skill acquisition, self development and building self esteem.

This project focus for intervention is a REAL threat inside IDP camps due to poverty, lack of security etc, and expected it can help many women and girls move out and start a better life if well implemented, coordinated and and monitored. Women and girls in IDP camps are systematically victims of rape, forced marriage and labour. They are physically, sexually and emotionally abused and they remain highly vulnerable and exposed to sexually and transmitted diseases and often unwanted pregnancies. Most often, women and girls in the IDP camps do not report SGBV incidents for fear of reprisals by perpetrators and stigmatisation by their immediate community, they do not have confidence that the authorities will hold perpetrators accountable. The women and girls of reproductive age in these camps also face lack of access to dignity materials – sanitary towels, bathing and washing soap and water.

Yellow Jerrycan Save a Child Foundation under its Gender Agenda program component works towards creating a platform of enlightenment, sensitisation and empowerment among this community having worked in these camps before under a different project.
